The Mid-Illinois Dollars for Scholars Foundation awards scholarships to local high school students planning to enroll full-time to an accredited college, junior college or vocational school. Students who apply must be residents of McLean County, Illinois and enrolled in a high school whose address is within McLean County.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization that encourages high school graduates to further their education by providing scholarship assistance. We have awarded over $5,000 in scholarships to local community students.
• Applicants must rank in the top 40 percent of their class and be enrolled in a higher education program.
• Selection will be based on citizenship, community service, financial need, career goals and a comprehensive, 300 word essay written by the applicant.
• Applications are available on our website at www.midfs.org (Application).
• Checks for each scholarship grant shall be forwarded to the financial aid office at the appropriate college or institution for credit to the account of the scholarship recipient.
• Applications and essays become property of the foundation and will not be returned.
Foundation board members will conduct the judging.
Each judge will award points as follows:
A maximum of 75 points to the essay based on:
- Clarity
- Neatness
- Originality
- Meaningful content
- Adherence to the guidelines
- Grammar and Punctuation
- Accurate presentation of facts
A maximum of 25 points to the resume based on:
- Content
- Neatness
- Presentation
- Potential of student’s success in college
ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES |
Winners must begin their studies within one year of graduation from high school.
Awards will be made to the college, university, junior college or vocational school.
Winners must provide the address and telephone number of the financial aid office of the institution.
NOTE: Scholarship money will be held by the foundation until written verification is received from the Registrar’s Office where the student if enrolled. Upon verification of all materials, the money will be forwarded to the institution. The scholarship will be forfeited, if written verification from the institution is not submitted.
Scholarship winners will be notified in June and the scholarship will be awarded on or before December 31.
AUTHORITY OF THE FOUNDATION |
All applications and submissions become property of Mid-Illinois Dollars for Scholars Foundation. The foundation will not be responsible for late submissions, applications lost in the mail or documents
post-marked by the appropriate date, but received after the deadline.
The Mid-Illinois Dollars for Scholars foundation has the ultimate authority to amend any of the above rules to ensure fairness in the award of scholarships. Any questions regarding the scholarship should be addressed in writing to the foundation. |
